Edward van de Vendel mostly writes books for children and young adults. His work includes poetry, song lyrics, fiction, picture books and non-fiction.
He was born in Leerdam, The Netherlands (1964). He was a teacher in elementary schools before he became a fulltime writer in 2001. He writes novels for children and young adults, poetry, and picturebooks, which are mostly published at Querido’s publishing house (Amsterdam).
His books were awarded with the Golden Kiss (best book for teenagers, 4x), Silver Pencil (best books for children, 15x), Woutertje Pieterse Prijs (critic’s choice, 2x), and he got a nomination for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (5x) and the Hans Christian Andersen Award (2x). His books are sold to more than twenty five countries.
