Misjka gets the Flemish Boon Award
Yesterday night, March 30th 2023, something incredible happened in Gent, Belgium: a professional jury chose our Misjka for the Boon Award for children's and youth literature. I wrote this book based on a few stories that Anoush Elman (in the middle of the photo) told me and the illustrations are made by Annet Schaap (she was ill, so she's not in the picture).
The jury chose Misjka from a shortlist of five terrific books: Morris, by Bart Moeyaert and Sebastiaan Van Doninck, Mot en de metaalvissers by Sanne Rooseboom and Sophie Pluim, Patroon by Marco Kunst and Schildpad en ik by Marit Törnqvist.
In the adult section Geert Buelens won for his essay book Wat we toen al wisten .
